The positives were few and far between, and if you were there last night then I’m sure you already know what they are. The night was very cold and from a Villa point of view the football was awful, which is something that separates the men from the boys. My young lad wasn’t interested in the dross that was served up and kept complaining about being frozen, he wanted to go home.
The Good Points
Firstly, we scored a goal, courtesy of Gabby. Secondly, our back 4 played well. Thirdly, we didn’t lose, which I predicted last night. And that’s about it folks!
The Bad Points
The bad side of our game started with the management, it always does! If you see that something isn’t working then you should change it, write? For me, Weimann and N’Zogbia were awful, so why didn’t Lambert change it? Charlie was taken off eventually but Weimann was left on!!!
Guzan Guzan Guzan!!! Yes you made a great save last night, but can you please improve your distribution. I thought quite a few times yesterday that we were playing Rugby Union as you were kicking for touch (sideline) a lot of the time.
Why is it when Southampton was in possession of the ball, the Villa players constantly put their reverse lights on!!! You saw it all the time last night, scurrying back to their positions to defend deep, so we can catch them on the break. We don’t do counter attacking football any justice, so why do we persist with it!!! Oh that’s why, Lambert see’s Villa as a counter attacking side, how funny is that!!!
Our attendance was the lowest in 15 years, but I’m not about to blame people for wanting to stay away. Like I’ve said in past posts on here, it’s a two way street! For the last 5 years of relegation battles and club mismanagement, it has come to this! You just can’t keep taking; otherwise people will just stay away. The Villa product needs improving but I can’t see that happening under this current regime.
Have I missed anything out? Do you agree that we were awful last night?
Let me know. I’ve already been told by a fellow Villan who’s a friend, that I’ve got nothing positive to say about Villa and Southampton were second best last night. UTV
i disagree with awful,, there was some good points and if winegum had have buried that chance which was a peach it was game over,,
i did not catch it all but in parts they played ok,, but its the final third where we are struggling,, and as you rightly say we sit back and its dire to watch, we need less of this!
good points,, gabby looked up for it,, defence defended very well, and there was a lot of effort from most of the players
to get two draws with the players missing is a credit to the team, but its clear we need creative players,, zoggy does not give us enough, winegum is ok but needs the big man back, gabby goes missing,,
so we need 3 attacking players in jan
bad points,, sissokos crosses, and lamberts tactics
but to be fair we have a point,,, and we have to wait until benteke is back before
we see an improvement but i gladly take that point and it should give the team
a lot of confidence going into the run of next games,,
and well done clarke and okore,,
Do you know Glen, I honestly don’t know why you & all us other supporters waste our time passing any comments on our beloved team.
Lerner & Co, couldn’t give a toss about what us supporters think. We are second class citizens who mean nothing. Judging by the turnout last night they will soon find out exactly who we are when the finance stops coming through the gate. Anyway back to the dross, another abysmal performance. 36% possession at home. Enough is enough, I personally will not be stepping foot inside the ground until lambert & Keane are both gone. We can’t hope that there is 3 worse teams in the league because at the moment there is not one.
This is the way they are being asked to the play by the manager, you may think it looks awful. Personnally I see the players giving it their all but the tactic (and there is only one tactic employed by Paul Lambert) is completely ineffectual and the results and performances have proved it. This tactic concedes a lot of possession, we sit very deep inviting the opposition to play in our half, it puts our defence under a huge amount of pressure for long periods, and we resort to long balls with majority of them failing to find their target. We were lucky last night because it was a mistake by Forster and great play by Gabby to get the goal where really he shouldn’t have been allowed to get the chance. After we go in front what do we do? We defend even deeper, commit absolutely no players in forward positions and so our balls out are more aimless than normal because there is nobody to pass to. We have decent premiership players, who aren’t able to pass to one another. This is totally Paul Lamberts fault and yes I do agree we are awful but you cannot blame the players entirely who are being told to play like this. Please, please, please Randy Learner give us back some pride.
You may mock the poor performancebut youu were playin a. Saints side who are flying and capable of thrashing Villa. With injuries I thought lambert. Only had one tactic to counter attack and defend deep. I am a saint but understand your depression at current events. You got a point against a team rightky at the top of the table. Take the point. It wasn’t pretty but the plan almost worked for 3 points. You were one winegum from winning.
Yes, it was rubbish. The 25 minutes in the 2nd half when nothing happened was very painful to watch. To be fair Saints were very poor too, both teams passed to each other over 10 metre distances with frightening regularity. Clyne the best player on the pitch and deserved his goal, a quality finish.
I think Guzan must have been playing to orders, he did find Hutton a few times, but then was very wayward. Reluctant to criticise Brad as his saves kept us in the game (as he did at West Ham). Thought all the defence worked hard, especially the much maligned Ciaran Clark, but midfield and attack (what attack I guess!!) were both very poor.
Most embarrassing was watching fantastic players from the past like Gary Shaw, Charlie Aitken and the incredible Peter McParland walk out to a stadium containing no more than 10k of the eventual 25k who braved both the elements and the rubbish on display. There were more people gathered round that lampost in 1874…
Those of you old enough to remember the Ripping Yarns comedy will know about the meag-losing team who replaced the current crop of rubbish with the 70 year old stars of the past…maybe…just maybe…;).
Even so, despite everything, as usual, Up The Villa!
It’s rumoured wenger may be replaced by
Jurgen Klopp or even Gaurdiola. 8games no
Wins and still no change, lowest gate since 1999
25000. How much longer has Lambert got, before
He finally empties villa park, hope to God it’s 100games
And OUT soon . Awful boring, one dimensional dross.
Will never return till a new top class manager installed
Got to agree with all the above comments on yet another of Lambert’s follies, so nothing to add to them.
On the manager, listening to him post game, and since, he’s obviously extremely happy with the way things are going on the pitch. He seems to think the winless run is a blip, that teams have, his own words, but, he forgets that blip has lasted 100 games with him in charge. The blips are the odd wins.
His attitude is that of a man with no worries about his job whatsoever, he has the full backing of the invisible man, Lerner.
But that’s a big worry for us, he trundles along, smiling during his interviews after a dreadful no win streak, oblivious to the fact that we are sliding into oblivion, no money, no tactics, no clear future after the club is, or isn’t for sale.
There is no end in sight to this mismanagement, from the owner, and manager, and the attendances and support dwindles, bad times.
We all know lambert need to be moved on ,we all know that learner is caught between to worlds does he sell or does he keep the club ,and we all know that our frustration as fans is running out and that’s one reason for such a low turn out in support last night , I for one don’t blame you ,
I believe we are a sinking ship , I believe that Aston villa is to big a club to be run by one indidual and that learner needs the intervention of new investors instead of selling the club outright , with other investors sitting on the board this would mean that atleast one or more would be watching the Same crap as us and that a decisive decision would already have been made on lamberts stay in the managers chair , because learner has no real intention of staying as owner outright and with no buyer coming forward I believe this that the only option left for our great club
I watched the unveiling of the lamb outside of the holte end and was proud to witness another chapter unfolding for this great club but …..but it’s time to let go of the past and reach out for a new and more exciting future .investment is needed but it shouldn’t be given to lambert , I could single out indidual players from last night only to bitch about those that didn’t perform , you can see that the negative tactics goes against every players desire to win. To stick to the plan ….I want to someone other then the forwards go for goal for one midfeilderto just have a go at goal to run beyond the front line instead of waiting for the right opertunity to pass sideways . As the game moved on you could see the belief erode away from the team . You can sit back and defend when you are three nil up not one nil up and I don’t see us scoring more than one goal a game even when benteke comes back into the side ….. It’s getting late with January just around the corner , where we go from here god only knows .
