Aston Villa 0 – 0 Southampton
I had us down for a win today, citing the change to the training staff that might give the players a lift, what we got was a scoreless draw, which was better than nothing I suppose. We could quite easily have lost this match today, but for the great saves from Brad Guzan and Ron Vlaar who was back to his defensive best.
There wasn’t many goal scoring chances for The Villa, the ones we had fell to Gabby, KEA and a Marc Albrighton, but they either lacked a good first touch, were shot straight into the arms of the keeper or lacked the necessary shooting power to beat the Southampton shot stopper.
It was more about our defensive display today that kept us in the match. To me, most of the Villa players looked like they lacked confidence, this might be due to the constant chopping and changing of the Villa side this season (no continuity), they’ve really had no time to get used to each other. Barring injury, a football team benefits more when its not being constantly chopped and changed from match to match.
Well it looks like this one will be the last match shown on Match Of The Day tonight and I won’t be tuning in. A point is better than none though, isn’t it. UTV
