Tom Cleverley’s arrival at Villa Park was a strange one in the sense that we didn’t know if he wanted to be here or at Everton. I think it’s fair to say that a lot of Villa fans were not over keen on his eventual move to Villa because they felt we were only his second choice. Come on, our last manager’s soul sucking regime wouldn’t be as attractive as Matínez’s Everton who were spending money and challenging at the top half of the league.
Eventually Cleverley signed for Villa on a year-long loan. His agent took most of the blame for his late signing, but all that doesn’t bother me for the reasons I’ve already explained. His official Villa photos when he signed for us told it’s own story, he looked like a wreck! He’d become the scourge of the England F.C. and the Manchester United fans couldn’t wait to see the back of him, but the only place that welcomed him was a very different Aston Villa, and that was better to him than nothing!
With our last managers negative persona radiating through our club and its performances, Cleverly found himself getting the kind of flack that didn’t quite reach the levels he got when he was at United, but he still got flack never the less! But change was in the air!
On the 14th of February this year, Tim Sherwood was appointed as the new manager of Aston Villa. Tom Fox had given Aston Villa an emergency enema! Sherwood breezed into Villa with all his wonderful self-confidence, cockiness and football knowledge that the football club so desperately needed.
The turn around in Aston Villa’s fortunes as a whole was almost instant. Aston Villa was a totally changed club and so was Tom, and all this passion is seen etched into every fibre of Cleverley’s body, look!!! If he isn’t scoring the goals for Villa, he’s celebrating like he’s just scored the goal that won the World Cup, even when it was put in the back of the net by his team-mate. No other picture illustrates this more than when Benteke scored the winning goal against Spurs at White Hart Lane a few weeks ago. Look at Cleverley’s face; you’d think he had just scored that winning goal himself!!! I love his passion!!!
Because we are a totally different outfit under Sherwood, I feel that football players will want to come to Villa, and the one’s we’ve already got, will want to stay! Yes, players like Tom Cleverley will want to stay at Villa now because Tim Sherwood is Aston Villa, and he knows how to get the best out of his players, the proof is there for all to see!
I wouldn’t ordinarily talk in this way about player’s transfers in or out of our club until our Premiership status is guaranteed, but when Cleverley is expressing passion out of every pause of his being, it’s hard to hold my tongue! And if we do survive, I’d get Tom Cleverley signed up first before anyone else as a matter of urgency! UTV
Can’t believe the turnaround in this kid. I guess Sherwood could be a magician. Well done Clervely, sign him up Tim.
under the last manager cleverley was not liked by a lot of people let alone himself he just couldn’t do anything right but now he seems a completely different player under sherwood & the fans that turned against him under the last manager are all for him signing a contract with the club which is all deserved through tim alone & i can’t blame him either he has been outstanding ever since tim has been here so please villa sign this new revitalised tom cleverley up before we lose out on him…….
