Yesterday was a very proud day for me and many Villa fans. Aston Villa had beaten Liverpool in the FA Cup semi final and we deserved it. Benteke scored a wonderful goal to tie the game in the first half, and then Fabian Delph scored what was to be our winning goal in the second that sent the Villa faithful absolutely wild. All the Villa players had done themselves and the Villa supporters proud.
Aston Villa’s own son Jack Grealish gave what was to be a stylish and disciplined performance with such maturity that it’s hard to believe he’s only 19. But with his young age and such a huge match to contend with, not once did I see Jacks performance weigh heavy on his teenage shoulders, which is why he was my Man Of The Match. Well done jack, you’ve done your family and yourself very proud.
The Liverpool Fans
With all the celebrations going on and the realisation that we’ve actually made the FA Cup final, not once did I stop to think of the Liverpool fans and how they might be feeling, and why would I? But as the concourses were emptying and we exited the stadium, the Villa faithful found themselves mixing heavily with the Liverpool fans as we all made our way back to our different forms of transport.
The Liverpool faithful must have been disappointed, so, for some of the Liverpool fans to come over and congratulate us on our win, well, it was a really nice gesture. One Liverpool fan ruffled my son’s hair and he told him that we deserved our win. He also asked him if he enjoyed himself, to which he replied, yes! Then he asked him if he would like to swap jerseys, we all laughed. Lastly, he wished us good luck in the forthcoming final; we shook hands and then went our own separate ways.
I know every club has their element of badly behaved fans, and Liverpool is no different. LFC fans follow their club passionately and they celebrate hard when they win, but I now also know, that they’re very dignified in defeat. The Liverpool faithful that I saw and met yesterday do their club very proud; you are a credit to your city. UTV
I was at the game yesterday and was very disappointed with our performance and the result, Villa deserved their win played with a lot of skill, energy and passion, can’t believe they have been struggling at the wrong end of the table. I hope Villa go on and lift the cup. Well done and good luck.
I’ve been a massive Liverpool fan for 40 years and obviously it was a bad result for us.
But credit where it’s due Villa were immense and definitely deserved the win.
I genuinely wish your guys well for the rest of the season, especially against City 🙂
Hope you win the cup!!!!!!
Maximum respect to the Liverpool fans who applauded us as we walked out of the ground towards Wembley Way and the tube. Talked to Liverpool fans in the pub afterwards. Very complimentary about our display.
The pub was the Junction at Harrow on the Hill. Good beer, good food, 3 stops from Wembley Way. Ideal for final.
Wonderful to see Jack blossoming and coming of age. No longer is he going to ground too easily and he has an ability to just glide around players. Very mature performance for such a young man, a pleasure to watch.
Superb all round performance from the whole team, what a transformation of the whole team and in particular Tom Cleverley and Charles N’zogbia. Villa beginning to play with the same cockiness exuded by Tim Sherwood, finally we have a smile back on our faces 🙂
Is Jack our new Brian Little?
It certainly was a wonderful day. I have never felt more proud than when a senior police officer told me, as I waited in the queue to go up onto Wembley Park station, that Villa fans had been a credit to the club.
However, the Liverpool fans, as The Villa Blogger quite rightly points out, played their part and were superb, humble and exceptionally sporting.
The number of Liverpool fans that slapped me on the back, shook my hand and told me Villa deserved to win was incredible.
The Liverpool fans were also ambassadors for their club while together, both sets of fans, were a credit to our wonderful game.
This was football as it should be. Lets hope Arsenal fans are equally sporting and we can all enjoy another tremendous Wembley day out.
