It’s Time For The Holte To Wake Up

Villa 1It’s time for the Holte End to stand up and be counted once more. In my younger days as a Villa supporter, there was only one place in Villa Park I ever-wanted to stand to watch the match, and that place was in the Holte End. It seemed to stretch miles and miles up into the air, and you could definitely get every man, woman and child in England into that stand.

The noise that the Hotle End made was unbelievable; it would make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, amazing! The rest of Villa Park always followed what the Holte was doing, The Holte led the way and we followed! So why isn’t the Holte as loud as it used to be? Is it our current situation, or is it because everyone mostly has to sit now? Maybe it’s because people are scared to raise their voices for fear of feeling like a berk, especially when you realise that no one else is joining in with you? Can anyone tell me!

Of course when Villa scores a goal, the Holte End erupts, as does everywhere else in Villa Park. But for me, the loudest I’ve heard the Holte raise their voices to almost biblical levels, was when Alex Mcleish was in charge of the Villa. The funny thing is, when Bolton scored in the 63rd minute and as the game continued, you could just tell there wasn’t going to be a Villa equaliser. Then around about the 82nd minute of the match, the Holte End raised its voice to a level that I’ve never heard before or after in protest of Mcleish’s pathetic reign; the realisation that we could’ve got relegated that season was very real and the Holte felt that something needed to be done. Randy Lerner was at Villa Park that evening and that was the moment when Lerner probably decided it was the end for McLeish.

So, could Villa Park ever raise the roof for 90 minutes of a game whether we’re winning or losing? Maybe it’s time for a change and we should take our lead from the Villans that sit in R1 and R2 of the North Stand, they’re always in the front line of the away supporters, and it looks wonderfully crazy over there at times. The boys and girls of R1 and R2 (who are always standing) could get the Holte End and us going. Personally, I’d like to see us take the lead from the Holte, but for whatever reason, I don’t think the Holte can ever get back to those delirious days, but maybe I could be proved wrong. UTV

  1. The team need to give us something to cheer.
With Lambert’s dreadful home record, is the any wonder the ground is half empty and sounds like a morgue.
    Lambert out.

  2. Go and see Dortmund the entrance fee is £ 13 they have gates of
70,000 , a waitng list 30,000. Under the present regime at Avfc
Unless their is a radical change, fans will never see the Holte back
To how it was. The team has to have charisma, flair, and be seen to want success, the atmosphere at present is subdued and I’m afaid
To say listless , the bbc recently did an article on german football
The difference is there the emphasis is on the fan? Entertainment,
And success, and that’s not happening at Avfc under Lambert and
    Lerner,

  3. I sit in the Holte End and we’ve not had a goal to cheer for a long time. And with this regime that’s in-charge things ain’t gonna get any better, but I do take your point.

  4. Yes let’s let lerner know we want him gone bad to take lambert with him

Let’s here the Holt in full voice

    Lerner out lambert out

  5. I was there that night too when the Holte erupted when we lost against Bolton, i never herd a noise like that before either. Maybe if we could harness that moment for an entire 90 minutes our team would play better. The Holte is like a living being and its dormant at the moment. But when we raise our voices we’re like an important member of the board and the owner I’m pretty sure the owner takes note.

  6. what is there to sing about?? hopeless football with the same old mistakes for years on end. A manager who seems to be un-sackable and an owner who doesn’t care. Added on top of that it costs in the region of £38-£44 to watch the game from there. You do the math. It is pointless demanding the manager out like blackburn did, it is almost self defeating. The club is stagnant and going nowhere fast. most games your just praying that somehow they get anything from the game. The ground will be half full on sunday and rightly so. I travel all the way from london to watch them with my season ticket but only out of sheer determination that this shamble who are running our club will not force me out. Nothing to sing about really!!!

  7. 1986 villa 1 Norwich 4, 12000 odd fans (mostly in the holte) singing our hearts out and doing the conga in a season every bit as bad as our last few! we were no longer champions of Europe; we were every bit the team that would be relegated that season. stood on the holte every home game from then until demolished and sang through bad and good times. you don’t need performances to sing holte end; stop making excuses and live up to the 12th man banner for once!

      • You nailed it. Holte enders saying they need to be entertained to sing sound like lambert with his fixture list – just making excuses! If we are the 12th man, then we should put in 90 mins like we want the players to. We should be the captain and lead by example, no matter what the circumstances we put in a shift and whether we win or lose you should leave the holte knowing you did EVERYTHING you possibly could to help us win. And if your not, then you shouldn’t be throwing blame at others. The holte is the spark plug in the match day engine, without it nothing fires. Don’t be a holte ender casually, if your taking one of those seats you have a responsibility – bring the fire!!

  8. I to grew watching games from the Holte, since all seater stadiums have been introduced I have noticed the following having sat in all areas now.
    1. Fans watching the game on the big screen!!!!!!!! STAY AT HOME
    2. A lack of passion from fans in all areas, except a few! And we know the areas. The loss of standing contributes because those who want to be vocal are looked on as strange!!!! Why do people go if it’s not to be vocal. If you need a reason to support go to the movies, not all teams can be successful, THERE WILL BE HARD TIMES

  9. I stood in the Holte End when we were in the old div3 in the early 70s (old git) and the noise and support was tremendous, it went a long, long way to getting back out of that dark age.
But then we could see light at the end of the tunnel, now, most have been lulled into a false dawn under Lerner, and his mismanagement of the club, and the present manager who is there to do the owners bidding, which is to keep us ticking over at the lowest cost possible.
In short, there is no ambition at our club any more, the Holte enders can see this, and the life is sucked out of them, hence, apathy, which is very understandable.
Wake up Lerner and all at Villa, then the Holte will wake again. UTV
