Ron Vlaar Centre Back
Ron Vlaar is a Dutch centre back who was bought from Dutch side, Feyenoord. The cost was undisclosed, but its believed he cost Aston Villa 3 to 4 million pounds. A no nonsense defender Ron acquired the nick name, Concrete Ron. Although after the Everton away match my friend phoned me up and said, “they ought to change his name to, Card Board Ron”.
Even though I think my friend was a little frustrated after drawing the match when we were 1 – 3 up with something like 10 minutes to go, I think he was being a bit harsh on him.
Ron was made team captain after Stan Petrov was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Sorry he actually took the arm band from Darren Bent. Never the less with Ron in charge of the arm band, it seemed to sit well with The Villa Faithful. Ron I believe had a half decent Premiership campaign, maybe he would have stood out more if he hadn’t got injured in the middle of the season, which kept him out the side for some time.
Ron’s Goals
Ron scored his first goal for Villa against Sunderland, and what a goal it was, Ashley Westwood’s attempted shot for the goal cannoned of the Sunderland defender, with the ball making its way back towards halfway line, Ron pick the ball up, carried it for a few Yards, then to unleash an absolute screamer from about 30 yards out. Man, I was knackerd after I fished celebrating that goal. His second goal was the equaliser against Wigan, which was our last match of the season and Wigan’s last match in the Premiership for a while, ha ha.
My Rating For Out Of 10
Ron Vlaar 7 / 10
