Aston Villa To Appoint Nigel Pearson?

nigel pearson 100For me, the most important acquisition that any football club could make is the hiring of a manager, and under Randy Lerner, this is where Aston Villa have failed badly. Amazingly, some people seem to think that the manager’s influence on a football teams performance and league position is at a minimum, if there’s any at all, incredible!

Alex Ferguson is one example of what it means to have the right man in place! All those years of success, and as soon as he retires, Manchester United fail to qualify for the Champions league under David Moyes. Yes, the players are very important to the success of a football club, but it’s the manager who can make average players good, good players excellent and excellent players world-class.

A failed manager doesn’t mean he can’t be a success else where, it’s all about the situation of that football club. Take Aston Villa for instance; the situation of our club was dire and we were in the relegation zone after the sacking of Tim Sherwood (not the fault of the manager for some), and whom do we choose as the man to get us out of trouble, Rémi Garde!!! And look at us now, ha ha ha!!!

Choosing Garde was just another long line of terrible decisions made by another incompetent Villa board, look at his CV and tell me he was the right man to get us out of the proverbial. There were some candidates for the Villa job at the time, Moyes who would have been my first choice then, or Nigel Pearson, who I would have right now!

It’s no good me going into the reasons why I would have him here at the Villa, they should be self-explanatory! But if you don’t already know what he achieved and how we could use his experiences when he was at Leicester City and how that might benefit our football club, then tough, I’m not explaining it to you.

Could Nigel Pearson become the Villa manager and achieve success? We’re going down, there’s no doubt about that! So we need a manager who can get us out of the Championship, Nigel Pearson! And then we need a man to consolidate our position in the Premier League, Nigel Pearson again! But even under Nigel Pearson, I’ve no doubt that the road back to the Premiership could be a long one, and if he did get us back up there, that would be a success.

As far as him becoming the next Villa manager, well, that’s another thing! Pearson can be unpredictable when dealing with footballers, just ask James McArthur; and the press? Well, let’s say he can be very prickly at worst, unless you’re within strangling distance of him. The way in which he conducted himself when he was at Leicester could put the board off choosing him, but that’s what you get when a man like Pearson puts everything into being successful at his chosen club.

For some Villa fans, Pearson would be their last choice to take charge of our club, and for some of the reasons I’ve used as to why he might not get the job, and if it bothered them, then fair enough! But I also think that there are quite a few Villa Snobs out there too, and the appointment of someone like Nigel Pearson would be too much for their ego’s to handle, listen to their ego’s ha ha ha!!!

My message to the board of Aston Villa is, don’t become a Villa Snob like some of our supporters!!! We’re not the Champions of Europe anymore, in fact we’re rubbish, and I’m putting it mildly! So go out there and get the right man for this very very hard job, Nigel Pearson!!! UTV

      • apart from the leicester miracle theres nothing in his manerial c.v.whatever happens, garde should be replaced now to give the new guy 10 games plus a pre season to sort out the club before next year.

      • Pearson been there and done it in the Championship, just what we need. Any progress mind you would be minimal with all the Muppets we have in charge, including our chief scout , Stevie Wonder.

    • we would hope, i’d rather see a hard nosed football man and not a coach, we’ve got enough of those and they’re obviously crap

  1. So the headline is just a cheap attention grabber with absolutely zero substance and no analysis to justify it. Well done. Got me didn’t it!

  2. Imagine how Pearson would be infront of the recent media scrutiny at Villa Park. Garde at least gives some air of professionalism. I think we should stick with him, as the saying goes you can’t polish a turd!

  3. Pearson and Moyes, you have some poor choices in management right there, then again it’s nothing surprising with Villa fans, wanting a manager sacked despite this not being his fault.

  4. Why are so many dopes letting Garde off the hook? Whilst accepting there are major problems top to bottom, what has Garde achieved or changed? Even if you have poor players and lose every game, the manager is responsible for the fitness and work rate of the team. He is responsible for ensuring the ball is closed down in the right place. He is responsible for ensuring players defend in groups that support each other. He is responsible for ensuring players attack in groups that support each other. He must be able to enthuse and encourage his team to maintain a useful work rate. All of these things can be done with poor players who still lose. So the problem with Garde is not that his poor team keeps losing. The problem is he has had no impact, has changed nothing, has enthused no-one, has failed to organise his men as a team or as groups of three or four operating in specific areas of the pitch, has produced no organised fire in the bellies of his players, has failed to produce a team spirit. If he had achieved these things but lost every game because his players are not good enough, then I could forgive him and excuse him from any blame. Change must include Garde as well as Fox & co.

  5. What difference will it make who the Manager is if Lerner remains as owner ? Lerner is the problem he is incompetent and unfit to own a football club. Our decline into oblivion will continue until this vile man sells up.

  6. i like garde but only he knows why he dropped okore for richards
i just feel richards is a big problem,,,
and this side is shocking going forward
but hutton guzan westwood veretout bacuna gabbyand clark and richards
    just not good enough,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
and with gabby we are effectively playing with 10 men
i am at a stage where maby we need to start again,,,,
garde has so many admirable qualities but it looks like he cant do anything with this rabble of rubbish
but we need to see how we finish the season and who survives the cull and the money available before we change the manager,,,
thats if he dose not walk first

  7. I can’t believe how much leeway Garde gets. Sure, confidence was shot when he came in thanks to Sherwood’s pathetic selections and tactics after he started to panic but Garde has done absolutely nothing to even start to turn that around. If anything, we are in even more of a mess. His man management of Grealish was pathetic and his constant negativity in interviews must transmit to the players. His selections are negative … I don’t know how he things we are ever going to score when he plays eight defenders and two attackers with no supply??

There is a core there that, if well managed and with appropriate additions/mixing of youth, should get us back up IMO but it needs the right manager. There is only one man for me – Warburton. Whilst I can see the merits of Pearson, I don’t like him. I want to like our manager!!

And it is pathetic to call Randy “vile” – naive, misguided, a poor owner etc. yes but vile is a pathetic word. The man has good intentions – he has sunk some £300m plus into our club with little hope of getting back half of that – but he, like most Americans looking at “soccer” – doesn’t have a clue how to run the club or who to appoint to help him!

    • Then he shouldn’t of bought a football club??? It’s naive to think he didn’t know what he was doing!!’ you don’t spend that kind of money without doing your homework first, he might of invested 300 million but he still has received back a fair share of that from sales and marketing, he can’t be asked anymore simple and that makes him disliked by so many

  8. true , but as a self made billionaire his acumen in business should have easier to sort te club out above first team manager even the stewards are being complained about, the club is rotton from the bottom up to the top, get rid of garde now and the new man will get 10 games to assesss what he’s got, and start the way back.

  9. Barry shoots
Lerner has ‘good intentions’ ! Are you kidding he has destroyed a once great club and made us a national laughing stock he has appointed idiots to implement his austerity policies while he hides in America. Lerner has given us 6 years of misery and the worst team in our entire history for this reason I think he is VILE

  10. We have to accept being out of the PL for some time. The current crop of players are simply not good enough to get us above mid table in the championship. With this lot, we may even have a relegation dog fight there. That all said, RG must leave along with the backroom staff. We need a complete clear out and allow someone like Nigel Pearson full control of playing matters and recruitment. In 50 odd years supporting Villa through 3 divisions, this is the worst I’ve seen. Spineless, no bottle, tactically inept, attitude ridden losers

  11. Chris hughton…. All day long! Had similar experience at Newcastle and worked wonders. He then done a great job at Norwich and is doing great again at Brighton. Bring in passionate players who lead by example. Sign Jon Walters to lead the line next year. Look what he’s doing for Ireland.

  12. We will be in the championship/league 1 until Randy Loser sells up. This is worst Villa team I have ever seen absolutely pathetic a team put together for peanuts. No club can survive in the premiership forever without proper investment in good quality players but that is exactly what Lerner has tried to do and why were are going down. No manager can be successful under an owner like Lerner.

    • Villa fans are always looking to blame everyone but themselves. You are a very fickle lot, as barrysboots points out Lerner has spent over $300m of his own money. Are Villa in debt…..NO they are not. I remember this exact thing happening when Doug Ellis was at the helm, he gave John Gregory $80m (which was a lot back then) and he bought a load of sh#t. But you lot all moabed at Doug saying he never spent any money. Someone mentioned the club is rotten from bottom all the way to thet top. Well we all know who are at the bottom don’t we. Suck it up, your time has come, you’ve avoided the drop for the last 3 seasons. You are not the big club you think you are !
Peronally i would like to see all the midlands clubs in the Prem, but for some reason none of the clubs can attract top class players. Anyway good luck next season !

  13. I believe Reme will walk. Nigel Pearson will indeed kick ass. Make your youth team into something special!!!!! He did at Leicster cos that is his team his inspiration!!!!! Our players need to work for Aldi’s or Sainsbury’s for a week.earn your money lazy, arrogant twats!

  14. Did Lerner fully understand what he was getting into almost 10 years ago, and the scale of the investment needed? I doubt it.

Does he have good intentions? I think he started with the right intentions but not any more, he just wants out ASAP with as much cash as he can claw back.
I would say inept and scared rather than vile.

Is his record in the sport/entertainment industry sound? No, he just got out by the skin of his teath in the USA ( no relegation there)

Can he spot people ( and hire them ) who are winners, and know what they are doing? Clearly not. If he did he would not have lost Martin O’Neill.

Has the decline of our once great club only started during Lerner’s watch? No it started many years ago but over the past 5 years it has accelerated with a vengance.( just at a time when many similar sized clubs are going forward fast).

Has he not understood that as the legal owner he is only the “custodian “of the club? Clearly not – the ” real” owners, the fans and 100 years plus of history will still own Aston Villa long after he is gone.

Where next? Without total change at all levels the decline will continue. We are in a downward spiral that is feeding its own demise. Lerner as the owner should lead by example – sell to a responsible, interested , well financed purchacer at a realistic price. Then and only then will we have a chance of beginning to rebuild.

  15. Hi all fellow villa fans what is going on in our club we all can see what is wrong at our club it needs to happen now not in summer get thing moving now sack the three twits now and learner sell club to someone who cares at a championship club price as you made us one I loved this club and always will like most other supporters to their clubs we seen this coming for four years and not ask for it I feel we won’t be back in top flight football for sometime this is a mess and we all can see it apart from the board and owner I dont like it but I urge us to turn our backs on our board our players that don’t run challenge or don’t care and manger that’s meant to pull them into line and be feared he wrong bloke made no difference from when he came in and can not see what he has bought to the club not back in January feel sorry their but not moved forward at all got worse players lack respects still roll on Sunday I be there with mates family and my villa fans brothers till 74 minute and will go be 3 0 down by then and will Sean enough of a team that not playing for us or them selves or that shirt 74 no more
